Histology of Human Tongue
Images are coronal slices through a 1cm block of excised tongue
tissue, stained with tricolor stain. Muscle tissue is red; glandular
tissue blue; adipose tissue is primarily clear. Locator tubes were
used to create two holes through the tissue sample prior to MRI of the
same tissue block. In the images shown below, holes are sometimes
hard to see, but are always located in the upper right and lower
left of the image. These slices were sectioned and mounted at the
University of Iowa, after MR imaging at the University of
